As the owner, leading a thirty year old commercial printing company with a broad customer base across the State of Texas and the US. We are leveraging the highly experienced staff in sales and marketing, design, digital and offset printing, data processing and mailing to set a course that further develops people, continues to serve customers exceptionally well and grows the overall customer base.

Developed the Lean strategy, hired and developed the improvement organization and led the implementation of system across the business (joint venture involving greenfield development of mining, refining, smelting, casting and rolling mill operations). Designed overall program and trained top 50 business leaders, 2500 shop-floor operators and 200 plant level leaders resulting in implementation of Lean across the business. Focused new organization on implementation of A3 thinking, daily management, problem solving, kaizen, standardized work, 5S, TPM-AM and an employee suggestion system to solve hundreds of problems in production and support functions.  Built a Lean team of 16 professionals that delivered deeper level implementation of Lean to more than 400 people. Developed and implemented business cost review process that delivered $25M of cost savings within the first 3 months.

 Assessed global business needs and convinced top management to support target condition, resulting in $6M in productivity improvement. Successfully designed and implemented global lean centers of learning consisting of organizational design and standardized training resulting in next level development of 300 people and delivery of $14M of savings in 2010. Through team building and leadership, turned around a world-wide best practice team resulting in great alignment and establishment of key lean best practices in areas of daily management, standardized work and problem solving. Developed leading edge process to drive spares inventories to practical limits using lean and risk analysis. Standardized process, developed regional resources through hands-on implementation. Process directly linked to exceeding $200M division target. Leading the Lean review, teamed up with global refining technical managers to conduct plant level refinery strategic reviews that identified upwards of $20M in process improvements. Led kaizen events to expand lean concepts in many production and non-production areas. One of many examples included leading the improvement of European shipping port efficiency to avoid $5M capital expansion and reduction of $2M in costs.

Selected to join internal management consulting group modeled after a similar group within Toyota. Set corporate standards and the implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS) methodology throughout 400 world-wide locations (130,000 employees). Coached, trained and led (learn-by-doing) implementations within businesses (smelting, energy, mining, refining, chemicals, and metals) at locations within the U.S. and abroad (Canada, Europe, Brazil, Suriname, Jamaica). Coached all levels from Division Presidents down to hourly personnel on the shop-floor. Responsible for improvement of North American smelters. Cascaded improvements from two lead plants in U.S. and Canada. Delivered $13M to bottom line in 2005 and $22.7M in 2006. Focus was developing location managers and lead teams to see problems and to lead improvement. Worked with world-wide leadership team to develop break through business drivers (Hoshin Kanri). Developed and led multiple learning events to teach plant managers key TPS concepts. Coached 10 high potential leaders through targeted projects to learn TPS more deeply. Developed corporate standard training (kaizen, TPM), auditing and leadership development programing (50 general managers).

Managed the startup of Alcoa Power Marketing, Inc. to sell $15M of power into newly developed wholesale power market. Effectively managed complex power contract between Alcoa and Texas Utilities controlling $50M of revenue. As a registered lobbyist, represented Alcoa at Public Utilities Commission (PUC) proceedings and was actively involved in development of retail electric deregulation in Texas (PUC, Texas Legislature and industry groups). Acknowledged as industry leader by Texas Governor’s Office. Initiated implementation of lean within the mining and power operations in Texas and Tennessee. Developed training and implemented 5S and standardized work. Through teaching 200 people, results included improved overall workplace organization and 30% productivity improvement for operations and maintenance. Led improvement projects within smelting operations.
