Also focusing on balance, upper body strengthening, Flexibility, fine motor coordination, energy conservation techniques, breathing techniques, safety awareness, and to prevent social isolation, anxiety and depression which is very common among people of this age group, I work to find ways to adapt their interests, hobbies that they did when younger and help them to know that despite their age and infirmity, they still play an important part of life and especially what we can learn from them. As I say about my parents, “they don’t make them like they use to”. We all can learn from the qualities they adapted, living through the Depression, WWII, and all the other decades of turmoil and change. This the “greatest generation”of hard working men and women. It is an honor for me to be able to help them spend their final years continuing to demonstrate grace under pressure and show them the dignity and respect they and all of us deserve.
