I earned my PhD in Neuroscience from Washington State University in August 2020. I studied circadian rhythms and the effect of circadian misalignment. My research also included the topics of sleep, development, aging, and brain metabolism. I hope to go on to a career in science policy or science communication. I have participated in advocacy throughout my time in graduate school. I have served as a Senator on our Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) where I worked on the Legislative committee. Through GPSA, I have had the opportunity to speak to representatives in Olympia (Coug Day at the Capitol) and Washington, DC (National Association of Graduate and Professional Students Legislative Action Day). I also helped to start the Graduate and Professional Student Science Policy Initiative (GPSSPI) at WSU and am currently serving as its Vice President. GPSSPI has put on several valuable events, including the Know Your District event with our local representatives, a talk on the science and policy of the opioid epidemic, and a PhD to Policy talk from a Program Director at NIAID. My policy interests are far-reaching, but generally associated with human health and well-being. Related to my circadian research, I am interested in ending Daylight Saving Time and having later school start times for high school students. I am also interested in broader issues surrounding mental health, drug use and addiction, and child development.
