Responsible for the delivery of technology to Dyson products entering new product areas, specially Personal Care. Leading a team of specialists and generalist scientists and engineers making current and future Dyson products exciting, high performing and high quality. I lead an ever growing group of Engineers and Scientist that work, primarily on early stage R&D projects that will go on to create the next generation of exciting Dyson products.My role is a mixture of technical strategy development, management of a portfolio of technology products and technical specialist as a chemical scientist.In addition to internal R&D leadership my team is also responsible for Dyson's External research and Technology function, looking out for innovations to bring into the company and developing relationships with externals. A significant part of this is our investment in University research in which I play an active role in both the direction and technical management of the portfolio.In my time at Dyson I have lead a wide variety of teams from Technical training through to full Product development, there is always a new challenge around the corner!
I started at Dyson in the white good research area also acting as the sole Chemical Scientist in the company. Thus my work was very cross disciplinary involving a large amount of applied science and engineering thinking. During this time I contributed to a number of projects in the laundry and related areas as well as at the start of the development of the Dyson Airblade with which I am still heavily involved.
I worked on a variety of innovative home and personal care projects mainly in the Antiperspirant active area where I was heavily involved in the development of new active systems in Sure/Rexona. My research also covered novel spray development and I pushed forward a new laundry device project in conjunction with Unilever Ventures.
I started in industry with A&W in the process development function in the International Technical Centre in Oldbury, West Midlands. There I work on scale-up of diverse projects from phosphorus chloride to polymers with a particular emphasis on methacrylate monomers.
