Instruct new accession Surface Warfare Officers in shipboard engineering principles, programs, and systems. Develop and improve engineering curriculum.Teach naval shiphandling principles through application of Conning Officer Virtual Environment.

Supervise, as propulsion plant watch officer, all operations, maintenance, and casualty control efforts of a critical nuclear reactor and associated propulsion systems, electrical power generating systems, and steam catapulting systems onboard a USN aircraft carrier. Manage 60 personnel in the operation, maintenance, testing and upkeep of all instrumentation and control equipment necessary for the operation of two shipboard nuclear reactor plants. Validate reactor physics calculations, to include estimated critical positions, fuel consumption, and nuclear instrument calorimetric calibrations. Oversee the training and qualification process for all Reactor Operators.

Manage 30 personnel in the operation and maintenance of deck systems for an amphibious assault ship, to include underway replenishment stations, ship's boats, cranes and davits, anchoring and mooring tackle, and all SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) equipment.As Officer of the Deck, lead a bridge watch team in executing the ship's mission, to include ship handling, navigation, contact management, flight operations, and other special evolutions.
