Our program is a 12-week, (two-hour) Parenting Curriculum, which will support men in parenting effectively. Our course will guide participants in working through a set of parenting scenarios designed to prepare men for a deeper understanding of self. The father-child relationship is important so our work will take a look at Interpersonal development, Caring for your Family, Communication from the Heart.The program was created to suit the institutional and interpersonal contexts shaping incarcerated men’s relationships with their children. Many of the participatory activities will include stories, role-playing, improvisation, moral dilemmas, problem solving worksheets, video vignettes, and group discussion to further encourage engagement. The facilitators will guide participants in relating the ideas to their own lives by exploring their childhood experiences and fathers and then by considering how these experiences have shaped their skills and goals as parents themselves. Our program includes 15 optional sessions that coordinate with the core of our model. The sessions allow us as facilitators the flexibility to add too our program.
