I apply my skills managing all manner of planning and engineering projects. I have been involved in smaller traffic and/or safety evaluations all the way up to large scale network evaluations, including a statewide root cause crash analysis effort. I have written federal guidance for FHWA, and given trainings to staff from agencies all over Florida. My passion is improving my community and I do that by focusing in projects that will leave the roadway safer or the community healthier. To this end, I have worked on several Vision Zero plans and on a team to facilitate a multi-agency taskforce focused on bicycle and pedestrian safety. I am always looking for a new challenge and welcome new opportunities to make a difference!

In my role at BES I worked as the Chief Engineer, responsible for leading our engineering team in pursuits and project execution. Additionally, I worked on several design projects including several pedestrian safety projects and one complete streets project on 1st Street in Winter Haven. While I was there, the Office Manager and I grew the office from five employees to nine, opened a Material Testing lab, implemented CAD Standards, and successfully built new local relationships with the opening of a new office.

Florida, District 1

I supervised the District Safety Teams and the Signing and Pavement Marking Team. The Safety Team consisted of a work program unit that managed federal safety funds. Data is procured and evaluated each year to look for trends. They then initiate safety studies and find engineering improvements to fix the safety issues. Once a countermeasure, or series of countermeasures, is selected the team works to develop a project to build the improvements. These projects then became the safety work program and multiple contract avenues were used to reach implementation. The team also works with local governments, designers, and design project managers to include safety features in other projects as well. The Education and Outreach Team also has outreach programs to help educate the public. This team also includes the operations Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator, the Community Traffic Safety Team Coordinator, and the Safe Routes to School program. The Signing and Pavement Marking group looks to make quick operational fixes on our roadways. They design plans in house and work with other departments, Operation Centers, local governments, and a unique construction contract to implement any changes. Under this role, I work with three supervisors to ensure we are making a difference and heading towards Vision Zero.

Florida, District 1

In this position I supervised the Access Management Team and the Traffic Studies Team. My responsibilities led to high level negotiations with large developers (DRI Level) as well as significant traffic studies such as the Sarasota/Manatee Barrier Island Traffic Study (https://www.swflroads.com/sarasotamanateebarrierislands/). My day to day in this position involved managing larger studies, training, and providing guidance to staff, and building good working relationships with customers inside and outside the Department.

Florida, District 1

I supervised a team to review and approve development permits with respect to driveway access, median control, intersection control, and other roadway features necessary to handle the developments proposed traffic across 12 counties. I was also involved with impending median plans in design projects, administrative hearings for driveway closures, initiating median projects, ERC plan reviews, coordinating with local governments with respect to permitting and land use, and designing/holding trainings for internal and external engineers. I attribute my success in this position to my ability to build rapport with external customers and developers, and look for win-win solutions.

I managed small to large construction projects from the CEI side – everything from simple resurfacing projects to larger roadway widening projects, bridge modifications, and drainage projects. I managed a dynamic inspection team to ensure the contractor builds project to contract specifications. My responsibilities also included evaluating and processing claims and work orders.
