Author
CurrentAuthor of The Reading Research Recap blog and video blog (vlog). I founded the The Reading Research Recap in May of 2020. I grew the audience to around 4k subscribers (200 paying subscribers) on the Substack platform before the blog was acquired by MetaMetrics Inc. in September 2021.
Vice President, Science Of Reading
Helped develop a go-to-market strategy for MetaMetrics' K-2 products, services, and tools including Lexile Find A Decodable Book. Lexile Find A Decodable Book is a groundbreaking tool allows teachers to search for decodable books by sounds. Ran the Reading Research Recap: a monthly blog/vlog that highlights recent reading research and how it applies to the classroom.
Founder & Ceo
I founded Elemeno to help bridge the research-to-practice gap in literacy. Part of my doctoral research at Vanderbilt was patented and upon graduation I founded Elemeno, and licensed the technology to try and develop it into a product that would be useful for teachers. I developed an MVP whereby educators could search for decodable books by letter-sounds. Through extensive customer discovery and several product iterations I learned I need to build upon this technology, so I filed for another patent independent of Vanderbilt (that MetaMetrics now owns).
Phd Candidate, Department Of Special Education
My research focused on individual differences in decoding skill acquisition and text decodability. This led to the creation of the Decoding System Measure (DSyM) which, in turn, led to one patent and a second pending patent. I received funds from Vanderbilt's tech transfer office to develop the DSyM into an application to measure the decodability of text. I worked with the engineers to design this tool and it is used by researchers across the nation.
