As a qualified Electrical Engineer, my first job involved the design, installation and commissioning of the refuelling system for the atomic power station at Hunterston, Scotland in 1962/63. And there was not a transistor in sight throughout the entire installation... It was all done with 6-contact magnetic relays and heaps of copper wire to connect them all up.I later worked for IBM for 19 years, from 1973 to 1992 as a manager in sales, marketing and product management. I joined IBM in Melbourne as a Sales Rep and became a team manager in 1975. In 1976 I moved to Sydney as a Product Manager and then went to Brisbane 3 years later as State Manager. This was followed by 2 years in Hong Kong, where I was Marketing and Sales Support Manager for Asia Pacific. In 1982 I was transferred to Sri Lanka for one year as Country Manager and, and then back to Sydney, where I spent the next several years as the Product Manager for the IBM PC for Asia Pacific. After leaving IBM I worked in several small businesses, including a specialised recruitment agency, where I managed all of the administration and developed a specialised database to keep track of all the recruitment functions.Currently I am focused on supporting small business operators by producing custom-made databases to help them to organise all their paperwork: customers, prospects, quotations, sales, Invoicing, project management, stock control, bills payment, wages, etc.I am also working with a start-up technology company (ExoTech) that is expected to begin operations in the 2019/20 time-frame. When it does start officially, my role will be to manage the sales and marketing of the product. This is, by the way, an exciting development in computer software - it is actually a totally new computer platform that will revolutionise the way we all relate to computers.
