I work on all activities necessary to ensure the Trust meets its responsibilities to Safeguard, having operational responsibility for monitoring compliance, & being accountable for ensuring all of the safeguarding policies are robust & reflect national, regional & local policy. I have operational responsibility and contribute to the development & implementation of systems & processes for the protection of children, working with partner agencies in line with statutory guidance, standards & legislation.I provide operational leadership & direction for safeguarding children & young people in the work with a variety of multi-agency partners developing systems to improve services for children with safeguarding needs. This includes participating in the work of the Local Safeguarding Boards & its sub-committees. I ensure contribution to ensure comprehensive & robust arrangements are in place with full adherence. As a clinical expert in the field of safeguarding, I identify, take responsibility & actions to meet the health needs of patients and their families, fulfilling the role of the Named Professional for the Trust. This is achieved through providing expert advice, specialist supervision, coaching, support, for staff involved in complex situations, assessment and management of risk, case conferences, police or legal interviews, court appearances and special enquiries. In collaboration with the relevant personnel, I undertake the Internal Management Reviews for Serious Case Reviews and Homicide Reviews when required, assisting with the collection of data and development of chronologies. Working closely with the Investigation Officers where there are Safeguarding related Serious Incidents and Complaints, which requires an in depth knowledge of legislation & statutory guidance. Assuring action plans and recommendations from Serious Case Reviews, Serious Incidents and Complaints accordingly in line with Clinical Governance, including trend analysis & evaluation reports.

The focus of the role is the delivery of training services including commissioning; designing; delivering and evaluating training to the external audience and to NSPCC practitioners and line managers. I was required to work alongside colleagues within the division in the development of new training initiatives including outcome evaluation models; blended learning and published learning resources. I also worked across NSPCC Divisions to facilitate learning transfer within the NSPCC and to external stakeholders.I worked to increase the understanding of the safeguarding needs of children and young people and to enable those working with, providing services or activities or coming into contact with children to have the skills, knowledge, systems and structures to protect them. I also contributed to the development of the NSPCC Training and Consultancy Service as a market leader and to manage projects.As the lead for mental health, I led on the commissioning, design and delivery of specialist safeguarding courses relating to mental health including self-harm, suicide and para-suicide, impacts of parental mental illness. As a mental health lead, I also provided clinical consultation session to frontline NSPCC practitioners who were working with families where mental ill health was a factor.I supported organisations in the commissioning of training through understanding the training needs of the service and staff, prepared proposals and costings for the commission with agreed action plans and outcome measures for the contracting of services. I also secured a number of tenders through the professional preparation of presentation and package design. In my time at the NSPCC, my practice both direct and indirect has influence individuals and organisation to enhance their practice and ultimately make a genuine difference in improving the outcomes for children.

Working within specialist tier 3 CAMHS services within the Neuro-Developmental Services for young people & their families where there was a complex Neuro-Developmental Disorder for example; ADHD, Tourettes, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Conduct Disorder etc. With a co-morbid mental health problem. I worked in an assertive out reach approach engaging with hard to reach young people and their families. I undertook complex assessments, produced reports, diagnosis and coordinated multi-agency responses and interventions to these cases.I also worked on the duty rota assessing and screening new referrals, covering cases in the absence of colleagues and undertaking the self-harm assessments. The assessment and management of risk (including safeguarding and child protection) ran as a golden thread throughout my case load.I offered expert opinion and specialist advice working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in a multi-agency provision of care. I managed a significant number of high risk cases as well as a significant number of cases wherby there were multi generational mental health factors prevelant within families.I became more adept at exploring and challenging poor practice as well as managing conflict. The application of both the 'Think Family' approach blended with Charles Rapp's 'Strengths Approach' enhanced and improved the outcomes for the families with who I worked.

I started as unqualified healthcare assistant on the in-patient child and adolescent CAMHS tier 4 specialist service.I also during this time worked on the bank / agency on a variety of adult mental health service wards including; Low secure forensic services, acute wards (various), rehabilitation wards and healthcare of the elderly wards.I was seconded by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to undertake my mental health nurse training at the University of Nottingham School of Nursing, University Hospitals - Queens Medical Centre. I graduated with Distinction.My first post qualified position was as a staff nurse in the in patient CAMHS tier 4 specialist services.I was successfully promoted to Nursing Team Leader (Charge Nurse) within the CAMHS specialist in-patient tier 4 service.I was also the specialist lead for managing violence and aggression within the service, devising policies, procedures and protocols for the directorate and the wider organisation. I also became a restraint instructor in the safe manual handling application and practice of safe techniques and interventions.I became a clinical nurse specialist in the specialist tier 3 community CAMHS working in a variety of services including; Specialist Substance Misuse / Offending team services, Neuro-Developmental Psychiatric Services, Self-Harm Assessment team and duty worker.I was also afforded the opportunity to gain experience in the clinical audit and research department for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust enhancing skills of audit, research and statistical analysis.For further details regarding each of these positions, please see the additional details in other posts listed.
