Current research & development activities focus on the development of novel II-VI and II-V thin films, modulator & sensor devices. In particular, formation of large area thin films (lithium niobate, lithium tantalate, PMN-PT, MCT, CZT), specialized nanofabrication processes, beam steering, and electro-optic device development (beam steering, modulators, sensors).

- Designed and built a brand new 4,000 sq.ft. laboratory (25 industrial partners, > 3 million dollars in funding). - Supervised the Novel Devices Laboratory; 1 post-doctoral student, 10 graduate students, and 2 undergraduate students. - Directed thesis research team; 4 graduate students, 1 post-doctoral student and 1 undergraduate student. - Outfitted laboratory with new equipment (bidding, purchasing, and budgeting).- Designed, installed, modified, and fabricated all new equipment in the laboratory (equipment cost ~ 1.5 million). Trained personnel in equipment operation and maintenance. - Publicly recognized by advisor, who dedicated the Novel Devices Laboratory in my name for outstanding leadership.- Performed research on the design and fabrication of electro-optic fluid platforms for switchable micro-optics utilized in IRCM (infrared counter measure) systems, laser radar, and holographic displays. Research required mastery in skills including: microfabrication, 3-dimensional and high aspect ratio lithography, novel material processing (polymers photoresists, fluoropolymers, dielectrics, aqueous and organic liquids), chemical and physical vapor deposition, prototype packaging.

- Fabricated nanoscale single digit electrodes and magnetic antidots using electron beam (e-beam) lithography. Single digit electrodes were fabricated in gold at a gap-distance of 1-3 nm to support bimetal paddlewheel complexes for single molecule conductivity measurements. Magnetic antidots were patterned in Permalloy (Ni-Fe magnetic alloy) ranging in sizes from 20-100 nm for research in high-density data storage. - Teaching up to 700 students in multiple classes (testing, grading, and laboratories).
