Australian Mining Villages
I initially established Australian Mining Villages (AMV) to provide Project Management and Consultancy services primarily focused on the rising mining accommodation sector related to the mining construction boom. This capitalised on my experience as the GM of a Transportable Building business. AMV provided project design and feasibilities for the supply and installation of transportable buildings and associated non-process infrastructure which also included site services, water and sewage treatment, power supply, environmental, stormwater modeling, traffic impact, and energy efficiency. The projects contributed to varied; from construction/fly camps to an 8,500 person facility in the Philippines, which included on-site manufacturing. AMV also provided property development services including sourcing potential projects, concept designs, feasibilities, cashflow forecasts, contractual drafts, funding proposals, and project planning. An example of my Project Management function was for OTOC Australia – Cape Lambert EPCM in 2012 and 2013 I was contracted by OTOC to plan and implement a recovery schedule for its Cape Lambert EPCM contract, which was part of the Rio Tinto Port B Expansion managed by SKM. The project was a design and construct of a large contractors lay-down across a 10 hectare site, and was key element in the critical path of the entire $6 billion project. The contract included the supply and installation/construction and fit-out of EPCM complexes for 150 personnel, in-situ warehouse, and communications buildings, along with a number of ancillary buildings and also included the provision of all civils and underground services reticulation over a 10 hectare site.As well as the project recovery the role included rebuilding confidence and trust with key stakeholders – Rio Tinto, SKM, and carrying out multiple additional roles, including CA, QA, Scheduler, and Site Management due to resourcing constraints.
