As a four year intern through the Bonner Leaders program, I took on increasing responsibility in the support and design of measures to end food insecurity among children in Orange County. Some of my work includes:-Lead strategic initiatives to expand the scope and reach of TABLE's impact, including: expanding the special diet options offered through the Weekend Backpack Program, strengthening client relations though family engagement events, developing and distributing summer nutrition and health education tools for our nutrition education students, and hosting an annual hunger awareness simulation banquet on UNC's campus. -Apply for and manage various grants and fellowships to support above initiatives; including the MacDonald Community Fellowship and Campus Y Fund, totaling nearly $2,000.-Lead weekly food sorting and bagging volunteer shifts to contribute to the production of nearly 700 bags of food aid each week.-Plan and co-lead multiple key annual volunteer engagement events, including appreciation lunches and training dinners, serving roughly 60-70 students and community members.

As a member of the Congressional Hunger Center's "Zero Hunger" intern pilot cohort, I was placed with Bread for the World Institute to support a cornerstone initiative on creating and implementing a methodology for applying a racial equity lens to policies and programs relating to hunger and poverty. My work included:-Extensive research, writing, and editing as support author and researcher of an 80 page briefing paper on applying racial equity to federal nutrition policies and programs, lead author of section on Child Nutrition Programs. Programs covered include the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, Seamless Summer Option, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, SNAP (Summer EBT), and the Community Eligibility Provision. -Attended various policy briefs and workshops across the D.C metro area; topics include hunger, poverty, and immigration policy; grassroots organizing, data and technology in public service and policy (data collection for equitable policy; GIS for effective urban and regional planning), and non-profit management.

-Ad-hoc interpreter for Arabic speaking refugee families in Chapel Hill and Carrboro area.-Translated in-person, over the phone and over digital communication in a range of settings, including schools, doctor/dentist offices, employment services, and social service centers. Provided direct Arabic & English translation while ensuring that the cultural context of messages is not lost and the gap caused by language barriers between the two parties is closed.-Provided refugee families with regular updates from RCP and expressed the needs or concerns of the refugee families to RCP as needed.-Assisted in the preliminary planning stages of Traditional Kitchens, an RCP based social startup that supports the economic and personal empowerment of refugee women by providing the infrastructure for them to professionally prepare and sell traditional cooked meals
