About Nelson Haung
If you asked 8 year old me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I sure as hell didn't answer "a B2B enterprise software marketer." Yet here I am. Ever since I made the jump π€Ύπ»ββοΈ into product marketing, I haven't looked back. At my (career) core, I'm a product marketer (before I get pigeonholed, I did have stints as an all around Marketing leader). My perspectives on the R&Rs of product marketing and its potential impact on a business, were forged during my time at Salesforce. I worked on 4 different parts of the business for amazing leaders, experienced the breadth of what PMM can (and should) do, was on a great career trajectory π..... and just left. Over the next 5 years, I scrapped in the startup world. Building positioning, messaging, teams, and processes from scratch, while fighting to get those first customers onboard. My stretch role was at Zinier, leading Marketing and Sales Dev, building both functions from the ground up. On-the-job training for leading through the β¬ and β¬, working across different teams and time zones, and what it's like entering markets with no brand equity. Yet even after all that (+ a 6 month break), I said "thank you, may I have some more" and joined Datajoy, a seed stage startup (story below). Now I'm at Klaviyo. Bringing in my experiences from what "best-in-class" marketing looks like, mixed with the scrappiness π₯ of operating at startups, and know-how taking marketing, sales, support, platform, and analytics products to market. And yes, it's a B2B enterprise software company, serving B2C customers though! Slowly re-βπΌ 8 year old me's dream, one job at a time π. *disclaimer: none of this profile was generated by ChatGPT nor proofread by ChatGPT. so forgive any typos and grammatical mistakes.*

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Sr. Director Product Marketing
I led the Product Marketing team for our Customer Service & Support products.
Vp Of Marketing & Head Of Customer Success
After experiencing Series A and B startups, had the crazy idea to join an even earlier stage startup. Datajoy was seed stage (backed by Foundation Capital) and focused on Analytics for GTM teams. I joined as the first GTM leader to build out Marketing, and as we acquired our first handful of customers, also took on Customer Success to drive successful implementations. We were acquired by Databricks in Oct. 2022 (https://www.databricks.com/blog/2022/10/13/welcoming-datajoy-databricks.html).
Chief Leisure Officer
Took a 6 month break that was filled w/ surf, family, and sleep.
Vp Of Marketing & Head Of Sales Development
My second startup stint, this time leading and building the Marketing and Sales Development teams from the ground up. It was quite a ride going from Series A (~60 employees), through raising our B and C rounds (from Accel, Founders Fund, ICONIQ, Tiger Global), to the peak of ~300 global employees, including 18 marketers and 10 S/BDRs.> Pipe Gen: drove ~$2M in marketing sourced pipe (off a $175k quarterly budget) and ~$5M in S/BDR sourced pipe per quarter.> Build Ground Up: recruited and built Marketing & Sales Dev teams from scratch; put in place foundational systems, processes, and comp structure. > Product-Market Fit: researched potential markets and supported our initial customer wins w/ large enterprises like Fujitsu, Telmex, and Black & Veatch. > Category Design: created and positioned ourselves around the term "field service automation" (vs "field service management") to differentiate against well-established players. > Executive Leadership: learned and experienced what it means and takes to be a leader not just for my departments, but across the entire company.
Head Of Product Marketing
My plunge into the startup world β I joined at Series B, ~60 total employees, 1st product marketer. We were taking to market customer service software that changed the paradigm of putting people at the center, not tickets and cases. Target industries were Retail, Travel & Hospitality, and Financial Services. > Foundational Sales Assets: built and refined initial pitch decks, product demos, and all collateral to support the sales process. > Customer Acquisition: participated in on-site discovery sessions, built custom RFP responses and sales presentations, and drove brand awareness at events.
Director Of Product Marketing, Platform & Core Services
Rounded out my time at Salesforce leading a team focused on supporting our Platform Sales specialists and building industry-specific messaging for Financial Services, Health & Life Sciences, Retail/CPG, and Manufacturing.
Director Of Product Marketing, Pardot Marketing Automation
Led the small, but mighty PMM team for the fastest growing product line at the time. During my time there, we were growing 30%+ YoY, rocketing from ~$150M ARR to $250M+ ARR.> Product Launches: launched two revenue-generating products β [1] Marketing Wave (marketing analytics app) and [2] Engage (activity tracking & sales nurtures) β plus Engagement Studio (new user experience for email journeys).> Press & Analyst Relations: led briefings for Gartner, Forrester, and boutique firms; drove messaging and product demos for press briefings.
Senior Product Marketing Manager, Smb Segment
Led our first foray into cross-product messaging for the SMB segment (~$300M ARR at the time). Created "Find, Win, Keep, Grow" messaging framework and tagline that is still used today on the SMB website, at events, and in advertising (as of 2023 π).> Messaging: created the simple messaging framework that brought together 4 product lines β 'Find' more prospects (marketing automation), 'Win' more deals (CRM), 'Keep' more customers (customer service), and 'Grow' your business (platform).> Website: oversaw SMB and Sales Cloud pages β established always-on A/B testing program and drafted page copy to improve web conversions.
Product Marketing Manager, Sales Cloud Crm
Came back full-time to a team of ~10 PMMs supporting $1B+ in ARR at the time. Worked on the trial experience (more sales-assist than PLG at the time), launched 3 new features, created customer-facing videos and demos, and ran creative sales enablement competitions like "Iron Rep" (h/t to Iron Chef).> Trial Optimization: revamped email and in-product journey to improve trial engagement and conversion.> Feature Releases: partnered w/ PM counterparts to launch Territory Management, Forecasting 2.0, and Partner Relationship Mgmt.> Sales Enablement: created and delivered training sessions, including "Iron Rep" sales pitch competition for AEs.> Event Management: responsible for the Sales Cloud expo ground experience at Dreamforce '14 β ideated and executed on our BSO (Big Shiny Object) to attract crowds and space layout for smooth audience flow.
Mba Intern Product Marketing, Sales Cloud
This is where I got my first taste of product marketing, and have been hooked ever since. It was an immersive, hands-on summer internship, where I delivered a sales forecasting demo video, built out sales assets, and helped manage the lead-in to Dreamforce. My reward for the summer β I got invited back to actually present in a Dreamforce session to 60+ customers.
Mba Consultant, Windows Phone
We were tasked w/ developing a marketing campaign to attract student developers into the Windows Phone app ecosystem. It was an interesting chicken/egg problem, where app developers want to build where the users are, and the users go where all the apps are. Fast forward to today's phone OS market... yeah.
Sales Engineer
I mapped technical knowledge to customer pain points and needs, developed an understanding of distribution through the channel, and got comfortable in a customer-facing role. It's also where I found myself rebuilding the decks that marketing provided β possibly the spark for my move into product marketing, where I now get to watch others rebuild the decks we deliver π
Design Engineer
At the time, AT&T was upgrading their network infrastructure to move beyond telephone landlines and into TV and Internet (Triple Play!). I had the chance to lift up manhole covers to inspect physical cabling, went into backyards to look at phone poles, and marked up network blueprints for construction & engineering to work off of.
