About Nicholas Gilbert
I'm a Controls Technician at Animax Designs with a solid foundation in Mechatronics Engineering Technology from Purdue University's Polytechnic Institute. I thrive in roles that allow me to design, problem-solve, and innovate, especially within the world of animatronics. My passion for animatronics goes back to childhood Disney trips, where I first experienced the magic of combining engineering with imagination and animation-a magic I now aspire to bring to life for others. In my current role, I'm dedicated to creating efficient, reliable systems and finding inventive solutions to project challenges. Some of my recent achievements include designing and building a 24V electrical cabinet with adaptive input for global compatibility, as well as updating its design to reflect evolving company standards. I'm constantly seeking to improve our processes, whether it's sourcing cost-effective replacement parts, enhancing clarity and accuracy in electrical drawings, or establishing a QC system for testing cables that saves both time and resources.I also have hands-on experience working on a job site, where I collaborate with local teams to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and ensure seamless project installations. With my experience as an Assembly Technician and my strong commitment to learning, I bring a comprehensive approach to my work. My goal is to deepen my expertise in animatronics and continue bringing the “magic” to life for audiences everywhere.

The company ordered a second of these projects so I updated the cabinet to our new standards that developed over time.-Identified and sourced a reliable replacement for an electrical component that failed and a temporary solution was needed. This part eventually became the standard for the project after testing showed it was just as reliable as the original but $750 cheaper.-Reviewed and updated multiple electrical drawings. Ensured labeling conventions were consistent across the project, moved things around to improve document readability, and redlined errors.-Developed a cable test bench using a Cirrus 4250. Designed a quick swap system using multiple terminal blocks and pre programmed multiple test programs. This allowed my department to start implementing a QC on cables we had received, catching some that arrived faulty saving time and money.-Travelled on site to install projects in their final location. Collaborated with local management there to work through and find solutions to the problems that arose. Show less

Tped Project Member
I was a member of the TPED(Theme Park Engineering Design) club and joined some of their extracurricular projects. The main of which was working on a robotic trashcan mimicking Disney's PUSH. I was responsible for managing and controlling the trash can's motors and electronics, this consisted of researching and implementing optical encoders to regulate motor speed. The project is still ongoing and will be passed to students at the start of next semester.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
I helped teach 2 classes: ECET 224-Electronics Systems and ECET 337-Continuous Systems Analysis and Design. During this I helped teach circuit analysis using Kirchoff's laws, digital and analog conversion, and RCL circuits. I enjoyed spending time giving one-on-one instruction to students and clarifying anything they didn't understand about the labs or class material.
Student Aide
At this position I supported the Dean of Student Affairs. I was responsible for many different administrative tasks such as taking calls, managing schedules, and paperwork transfers. I helped many students problem solve issues with other students, professors, or faculty. I also helped students locate where they should go if I was unable to solve their problem with my office's resources.
