Environmental Education volunteer in a rural Mexico teaching ~250 students across all grade levels teaching on environmental themes and life skills. Implemented bottom-up project development using PACA tools (Participatory Analysis for Community Action). Awarded a $10,000 USAID SPA grant to promote climate change mitigation and community health building wood-efficient stoves. The same grant helped build and manage 6 school gardens. Involved a great deal of community engagement and professional presentations in Spanish.Collaborated with partners in the Mexican federal government in a municipality-wide solid waste management program introducing recycling and trash reduction measures through local institutions. Learned important relationship management skills in a new language and culture.Served as a representative on the Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC), and Peer Support Network (PSN), developing wellness activities and providing emotional support for volunteers in my region. Worked with Peace Corps Mexico officials to help communicate/resolve volunteer issues.

Served as a mentor and authority for first-year college men. Developed programs on education, diversity, sustainability, and community service. Enforced college policy. Worked with staff of 72 people. Acted as liaison between fellow students and Residential Life Staff.

Developed and led summer programing for children of English as a Second Language/non- English-speaking immigrant parents.• Fostered an appreciation amongst the children for the environment through programs such as visits to local parks and nature centers, as well as trips to community gardens.• Led a “Humans of New York-esque” photo-journalism project where students learned the fundamentals of photography and interviewed immigrant workers in the horse stables of Churchill Downs in Spanish to learn their stories, which were displayed in a local gallery.• Provided emotional support to and mediated conflict between children ages 6-15.• Taught/tutored English to children and adults from primarily Spanish backgrounds.• Did community development and outreach, including barn-to-barn recruiting to expandthe Backside’s patron base.• Helped run fundraising events raising about $12,000 for the center.• Developed strong interpersonal and communication skills.
