While at PharmaCann, I was provided the unique opportunity to be a member of a team charged with developing a business in a brand new market. Working for a start-up is not without its challenges, especially in a tightly regulated market, but knowing that we could change the lives of patients for the better made the effort well worth it. At Pharmacann my role was to develop cannabis extraction capabilities and start up cannabis infused product lines. Starting with three empty rooms, my team and I were able to bring three new product lines, 15 SKU’s, from concept to production. As well, I developed in-house UHPLC capabilities to aide production and quality control capabilities. The natural products technical services team works primarily with R&D and QC in the Beverage business unit. While a member of the team, I was are heavily involved in the evaluation of raw materials and processing techniques for their suitability in beverage flavor formulations. The majority of the materials are essential oils, essential oil derivatives, and natural F&F ingredients. Our work involved a complex balance between available materials, reformulation, and processing technology in order to ensure our products satisfy our customers' needs. In my time with the R&D team, I worked on duplications, reformulations, new formulations, rework instructions, new technologies, and method development. In QC I worked on analysis of raw materials, finished products, and finding the best methods to determine quality characteristics for numerous types of essential oils. In both capacities I have focused on development of my sensory skills for the evaluation of odor and flavor of these ingredients.Some of my other projects at Kerry included customer complaint CAPA and 5 Why analysis, internal auditing, stastical analysis of quality and R&D data, QC lead for a multimillion dollar project, SOP development, improving communication in our groups, and gathering of "tribal' knowledge into a primer for new hires in our division.My main focus was working towards managing technical communications with our customers and aligning our specifications with their expectations. In this aspect of the job communication with customer service and sales was crucial. Additionally I completed the Kerry Graduate training program. The program is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to take on early leadership roles in Kerry. It is an 18 month program and incorporates sessions about leadership, political saavy, business and financial knowledge, insight sales, and project management. The program ends with a presentation to senior management.
