When my parents (rightfully so) declined to buy their kindergartner a large stash of Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh cards, they unknowingly kindled a lifetime passion of mine to reverse engineer systems, games, and basically anything else and figure out how it works. A few weeks later I was giving friends at school booster packs I made of my new bootleg card game that was eerily similar to the games I had asked for.Not too long after, I started designing my own games and that led me to video game design, and programming in middle school. My experience since has been varied if you look at it on a resume, but the link connecting it all has always been a desire to understand how things come together, and use that to make new things. After school, that lead me to software development and testing. In testing I get to explore why something works, or why it isn't working as expected, and in development I get to use the things I've learned to make something that hasn't existed before. I'm still making games in my free time. Currently I'm working on a procedural, session-based RPG called Valantis, which combines some of the emergent storytelling of rogue-like games or board games like Betrayal at House on Hill, with the short-lived characters and session-based metagame of something like Hunt: Showdown or Escape from Tarkov.
