I qualified as a solicitor in 2010, immediately moving into employment and discrimination law, and work in Leigh Day's employment and discrimination team. I was promoted to Senior Associate Solicitor on 1 April 2019. I was classified as a 'Rising Star' in the 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 Legal 500 categories of employee / trade union and senior executive, and have been described as "Brilliant” and “An incredible lawyer with judgment and negotiation skills that are second to none". I was also classified as an 'Associate to watch' in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Chambers and Partners, and described as "Fantastic: he is very good at the law, has very good instincts, fights tooth and nail and has excellent judgement". In 2023/24, I was classified as a Star Associate in Chambers and Partners, and described as: “…a formidable solicitor in the employment space. He has exceptional judgment as well as being bright and an incredible strategist who finds creative ways to pursue his clients’ interests”, and “Nick always does a fantastic job. He is thorough and comprehensive and a fighter…he gets brilliant settlements for clients.”I joined Leigh Day in February 2013 having previously held the position of employment solicitor at a trade union. I trained at a law firm in Cambridge and helped establish and manage the firm’s position as the sole legal aid employment law provider in the region. I have substantial experience in all areas of employment and discrimination law, including maternity and pregnancy discrimination, disability discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, age discrimination, sex discrimination and race discrimination, equal pay, unfair dismissal, restructuring (including TUPE), internal dispute resolution, victimisation and whistleblowing. I am experienced in all stages of litigation from commencement to settlement, regularly achieving high-value settlements or successes at the employment tribunal on behalf of my clients. I provide advice to trade unions and their members. I also specialise in claims in the civil courts, in particular those which involve discrimination in the provision of premises, services, and education. For example, a client recently succeeded in what has been described as a 'landmark' disability discrimination claim, which set a number of precedents including the highest injury to feelings award in a case of this kind.I am regularly involved in media and press-work.I am passionate about and committed to ensuring that everyone has access to justice and that their voice is heard.
