Nick is the founding Director and leads the New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) – a high-performance computing and artificial intelligence platform, research developer cloud, and digital research services and capability development. Over the last 13+ years NeSI has developed a broad portfolio of offerings for researchers including pioneering national approaches to Carpentries computational skills training for researchers and establishing the national research and education identity federation Tuakiri, while offering the opportunity to work alongside one of the friendliest HPC teams on the planet.Nick’s background is in software and technology - his postgraduate research in innovation and technology diffusion applied anthropological methods to study a financial services startup. Nick has been CTO in an e-learning commercialisation division, was involved in creating and becoming Director of the New Zealand BeSTGRID scientific computing platform, and helped establish the University of Auckland’s Centre for eResearch, of which he was Co-Director.
