CurrentAs an Econometrician in the Centre for Population Health I have built numerous mathematical and statistical models of infectious diseases and epidemiological phenomena.My work at Burnet involves:— Analysing data from ongoing cohort studies operated through Burnet, including monitoring drug market trends and trends in injecting drug use throughout Melbourne; — Supervising PhD and honours students; — Ongoing involvement in the planning of randomised controlled trials (for… Show more As an Econometrician in the Centre for Population Health I have built numerous mathematical and statistical models of infectious diseases and epidemiological phenomena.My work at Burnet involves:— Analysing data from ongoing cohort studies operated through Burnet, including monitoring drug market trends and trends in injecting drug use throughout Melbourne; — Supervising PhD and honours students; — Ongoing involvement in the planning of randomised controlled trials (for hepatitis C virus treatment models of care and alcohol interventions in the community), including survey and methodology design;— Writing tenders for external funding bodies, including the World Health Organisation and various government departments; and— Input to the OptimaTB collaboration, designed to improve the allocative efficiency of country level tuberculosis spending across preventative and treatment programs.Models I have built include:— Econometric, regression, and Markov models to understand the behavioural responses of people who inject drugs to changes in drug market dynamics; — Deterministic transmission models of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections; — Cost-effectiveness models investigating the impact of treating chronic hepatitis C virus on the future burden of liver disease; — Intervention models to predict the benefits of hepatitis C virus vaccines; — An agent-based stochastic model for performing alcohol policy experiments among populations of young heavy drinkers; and — An allocative efficiency model as part of the ‘OptimaTB’ collaboration.
