As the leader of Arup's Risk Management Team, I have worked a new business strategy where we will work with our strengths as a team and play our part in Arup's focus on cities and the built environment. Although we take on a wide range of Risk Management activities our focus is in three principal areas:1) Project Risk Management and Safety in Design. In particular complex Joint Venture and large scale infrastructure and leading edge architectural building projects.2) Hazardous Industry and Planning Requirements. Our detailed knowledge of Hazardous industry, modelling capability, preparation and assessment of safety cases, knowledge of planning requirements and close links with our structural colleges at Arup, allows our team to analyse, assess and provide practical mitigation advice.3) Dealing with risk in infrastructure development particularly road and rail developments, tunnels and bridges.Key clients and projects include:Process Safety specialist dealing with major hazard facilities, mining dangerous goods and explosives. Experienced facilitator of HAZOP, HAZID, CHAZOP, Mult-criteria decision making, Problem Solving workshops, as well as ability to produce bespoke solutions for specific high hazards or regulatory demands.Approved Assessor of Safety Cases for ComCare (Commonwealth Regulator). Expert Witness in planning matters associated with major hazard facilities and explosives storage.Risk Assessments of external threats on infrastructure and buildings such as: - Longwall coal mining on road pavements, bridges and associated furniture; - LPG storage and reticulation services in or near high rise buildings and critical services; and - Fuel storage and retail areas in proximity to rail viaducts, housing developments or other industry;Mitigation strategies and exposures due to extreme natural events (including climate change impacts).Risk software utilised includes @Risk, PHAST, PHAPro and SPeAR.
