Global Mentors work at the Education Abroad office, which is responsible for any matters pertaining to students looking to study abroad. Responsibilities include promoting study abroad opportunities to students, helping students submit their study abroad application, handle application paperwork using Terra Dotta, and more. As the office is a part of the Center for International Studies on campus, Global Mentors also assist the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office from time to time.

The Advanced Preparation Program is a five week program that freshmen recently admitted to SCSU can enroll in the summer before their first semester starts. Students take two classes while living on campus, one English course and one on Race in America. The other counselors and I were responsible for: assisting the students in finding university services that best fit their interests or needs; planning and setting up weekend field trips and events; ensuring that the students were attending class and were studying for exams; encouraging the students to be active univesity students by promoting different job positions, volunteer opportunities, and club activities on campus.

I worked on a team with several Electrical Engineering and Meteorology students, as well as the department heads for the two majors, to develop a virtual reality weather simulation to be used in meteorology courses. The simulation is currently capable of loading previously recorded weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and displaying the data visually through a virtual reality headset such as the HTC Vive. I worked on designing and implementing a control scheme for the HTC Vive, designing a user interface for the simulation, and optimizing the data loading process by using threads to load the data with the simulation running simultaneously.

Rochester, Minnesota Area

At IBM I tested the functionality of an up and comping CPU that conforms to the OpenCAPI specification. I was responsible for taking daily regression statistics of our testcases, and worked to automate some of the more time-consuming tasks my team had to complete. I wrote several testcases in C++ to verify the chip's error detection system, and reorganized part of the simulation code so that future changes to the hardware can be handled gracefully.
