About Nicole Chong

Nicole earned her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto in June 2018, completing the molecular genetics & microbiology and biology double major programs with a minor in physiology. In 2019, she returned to UofT’s School of Continuing Studies to pursue project management. Nicole is currently enrolled in the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate program through Coursera as well as the Data Analytics in SQL certificate program with DataCamp.She has also begun a small business centred around knitwear design, size inclusivity, accessibility to supplies, and fostering good friendships and relationships in the greater crafting community since late 2020. Nicole has storefronts on Etsy and Ravelry (a knitting and crochet pattern website). In the summer of 2022, she used her web development background to create her own WordPress-based website. In the spring of 2023, she downgraded it to a blog to focus more on creating content rather than e-commerce: https://nixoclock.wordpress.com. She has both a knitting blog and a Reading Challenge blog to recount her experiences doing both.When Nicole is not creating her own patterns or knitting for leisure, she is a volunteer test-knitter, where she helps other independent designers test their patterns before they go to market. This includes testing them for size inclusivity, giving technical advice, and aiding designers in product marketing. Nicole had been a part of the digital publishing industry for 5 years. From 2016-2021, she held various positions at the educational technology, SaaS start-up company, Top Hat, where she was most recently a Customer Service Specialist in the financial operations department. Nicole started her newest position in financial technology at Affirm as a Customer Operations Associate II in October 2022. She began the 90-day "Pathways to Leadership" program within the Operations Department in August 2024. Beyond academics, Nicole enjoys boxing, kickboxing, knitting, playing piano, reading novels, blogging, learning how to code, how to draw, collecting comic books, and meeting new cats.
