Travelife is an international sustainability certification scheme designed by the travel industry as an affordable and fair system that allows hotels and accommodations to monitor and self-assess their sustainability performance and improve their sustainability. It helps its 1,300 hotel members around the world improve their environmental, social and economic impacts cost-effectively. The system and its criteria have been developed through a multi-stakeholder consultation process involving tour operators, hoteliers, trade associations, Non-Governmental Organisations, audit firms and academia. Launched in 2007, it is now recognised within the travel and tourism industry as one of the most comprehensive and credible tools. Hotels that meet the Travelife standard are formally recognised with a Travelife award to promote their achievements.Tourism can enhance the lives of local communities and their environment which is why sustainability of destinations is the core to Travelife vision.
