About Olivia Ramirez
My name is Olivia Ramirez. I am certified in Cross Categorical Special Education. I have a Masters degree in Special Education from Edgewood College. The opportunity at SDB has offered me a plethora of experience in the special education field. It has allowed me to obtain first hand experience scheduling, writing, completing, and implementing IEPs. Using previous evaluations, conversing with general education teachers, and looking at student progress is the most effective way to create attainable and measurable goals. I am able to effectively assess and measure a student’s progress, and report that in quarterly progress reports. During the school day, I regularly support special education students in the general education setting. I modify notes, assignments, quizzes, and assessments. I also teach a daily reading intervention. In this intervention we primarily use the iReady system. I also teach writing strategies such as RACES (restate, answer, cite, explain, sum it up), weekly journaling, group reading, and independent reading. I have administered functional behavior analysis in order to create a behavior intervention plan (BIP). I worked together with the school psychologist and school social worker in order to complete student evaluations. I learned how to file for evaluation extensions. One was to allow more data collection for SLD, and the other two were due to the unfortunate COVID-19 pandemic. My Spanish skills have enabled me to communicate with Spanish speaking families via google voice and email. I have been able to translate progress report notes and fliers sent out to families. I am a graduate of University of Wisconsin Madison and have a Bachelors of Arts degree specializing in Religious Studies. My scholarship in Religious Studies and personal experience has prepared me for the duties of multiple position's. The academic study of religion is similar to cultural anthropology. An individual learns about the cultures and values of a specific group of people. Coursework for this degree includes, but is not limited to, African studies, Asian studies, as well as four semesters of Spanish. Through this coursework I have gained a deep appreciation for people from all cultures and backgrounds, as well as learning how to effectively read, write, speak, and comprehend the Spanish language. Additional skills attained in the Religious Studies field include learning to read, interpret, and theorize information. I am able to write academically and analytically.
Listed skills include Spanish, Communication, Editing, Writing, and 2 others.
