My background often leaves people a little nonplussed because we’ve been fed a false narrative about people being either “left-brained” or “right-brained.” How can someone enjoy science and math, and have a creative eye? Based on my experience in research, creative writing, and marketing, I argue that we were never meant to split up our brains. In fact, I use creativity and hard analysis together every day.I ask a few questions about my work before hitting publish: 1) Is it rooted in the facts 2) Does it help people? 3) Is it designed with human beings in mind? Answering yes to all three creates effective content that I’m proud to call my own. I then use data from that content to inform future decisions. Like an artist I start with a gut-feeling to create content, but like a scientist, I am open to changing my strategy if the data shows there's a better way. When working at The Center for Ocean Solutions, I improved user experience (UX) by knocking down a ten click user journey to just three clicks. I also interviewed project managers to create copy that concisely expressed the organization’s goals, and lead a new practice of segmenting email lists by reader interests to better target journalists. In my current position at Falcon Structures, I create blogs, guides, graphics, and CTAs to further long-term marketing and SEO strategy. Experience with statistics and experimental design enables me turn data from Google Analytics and Hubspot into guidance. My work has already increased web sessions by 29.46% compared to the previous year. The cold emails I wrote for our outbound sales program have also created promising leads in the water treatment industry.As I pilot our new A/B testing program with CTAs, email, and landing pages, I am eager to analyze the results.
