A proven economist with significant experience in the design, development and application of a wide range of economic intelligence data; driven by a strong personal commitment to (and a passion for) quality economic intelligence and its use in shaping public and private sector investment decisions.I led a team of twelve economists, analysts and research specialists providing a wide range of economic intelligence gathering, monitoring and analysis services to Yorkshire Forwards Board. The “Chief Economist Unit” (CEU) also provided a wide range of economic research services to partners (such as Local Authorities) with whom Yorkshire Forward worked closely. The Chief Economist Unit formed the core of the professional economics function of Yorkshire Forward providing advice and analysis to internal and external clients whilst also establishing a national reputation in the use and application of sectoral input-output modeling. The team was responsible for all aspects of the economic appraisal of Yorkshire Forwards investments. The role also involved significant professional economic advocacy activity in representing Yorkshire Forward to the media and the regions business representative organisations

In many ways a similar role to that of Chief Economist (see above) at Yorkshire Forward with the focus on more operational aspects of the full range of economic intelligence services provided by the Chief Economist Unit. The role involved overall responsibility for the day to day running of the CEU whilst managing Yorkshire Forwards substantial program of primary socio-economic research activity. The Principal Economist was also responsible for all aspects of corporate research activity such as benchmarking the effectiveness and performance of the agency.

The role of the Research and Information Manger was focused on the development and management of Yorkshire Forwards internal research, economic analysis and evaluation functions. In the period 1999 to 2004 I developed and expanded Yorkshire Forwards internal research and economic analysis function and was responsible for the introduction of key intelligence resources now used widely across Yorkshire and Humber – including the Regional Econometric Model (REM), the Survey of Regional Economic Trends (National Business Survey) and the National Lifestyle survey.
