My name is Patrick Burke and I am a finance major who graduated in May 2020 at the University of Rhode Island. I have developed strong analytical skills through my coursework at the University of Rhode Island. This along with my knowledge of financial reporting, customer service skills, and problem solving skills make me a qualified candidate for the job. My education has advanced my skills in analytics, financial reporting and computer software related to business. My related course work in advanced financial management, applications of microcomputer software in business, and both managerial and financial accounting have expanded these skills. In these classes I researched selected current topics relating to the financial management of a firm, had in-depth study of microcomputer software used in business applications with an emphasis on spreadsheets, data management, presentation graphics, and communication software. I also studied corporate financial reporting which included topics such as stockholder's equity, earnings per share, income taxes, current liabilities, bonds, leases, accounting changes, and statement of cash flowsI have also been able to develop strong communication skills, problem solving skills and work ethic through my job experience. While working as a sales representative and a camp counselor I was also able to develop great communication skills. Whether it was parents or a potential customer it was an important part of my job to make strong connections with them as building and maintaining positive, personal relationships with them was a very important. As a sales representative I often worked alone or with one other person. Having a strong work ethic and the ability to self-motivate was crucial in order to have success. Finally, I improved my problem-solving skills extensively while working demolition labor. It was key to be able to adapt and problem solve on the spot in order to meet deadlines while also staying within OSHA regulations.
