Special Investigator
Schaum
In this role I investigated suspected insurance fraud and complex cases within an assigned territory. My work included surveillance-related cases in all lines of business, as well as field work requiring scene investigation, witness interviews, gathering evidence, and preparing investigative reports. I also responded to requests for information from fraud bureaus, law enforcement agencies, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, and other regulatory agencies. I hired and supervised private investigators doing surveillance work and was frequently outsourced to manage field investigations conducted by others.➥ Worked with FBI, ATF, and USPS on mail and wire fraud cases crossing state lines. ➥ Investigated 24 cases each month on average (more than 3,000 total), including background investigations, witness location, arson investigation, examination under oath, attorney preparation, and building/residence/vehicle investigations. ➥ Handled company’s largest fraud case, involving $1.25M in insurance fraud against Zurich North America and $3.5M against several other insurance companies spanning eight years. Claims involved false filings of rental car break-ins and stolen goods.
