Since February, I have covered oil and refined product swaps and derivatives for Platts.

I covered the bunker fuel market on the West and Atlantic coast of the United States for my first 10 months at Platts. In addition to assessing a market, I covered stories, trends, and news that affect the overall bunker markets on the West and Atlantic Coast of the US

I helped create content on a daily basis for Deadspin.com, one of the most visited sports blogs on the internet. Along with doing research or assisting with larger projects, I created the weekly feature "Bristolmetrics," a breakdown of what appears on the nightly ESPN show "SportsCenter." The feature has been covered in publications like Sports Illustrated and major blogs like "The Big Lead." In my time at Deadspin, I have attracted more than 100,000 unique users to the site.

I assisted in the editorial process at The Onion. This involved researching for writers working on an article, compiling news trends as to what might happen in the coming weeks, helping compile and select themed issues for when the writing staff was on vacation. I also helped copy edit "The Onion Book of Known Knowledge," an encyclopedia the publication released late 2012.

I currently work with the publication efforts of St. Jude Medical Neuromodulation Division., I have helped copy edit the entire media kit for journalists, written profiles of patients who have had successful procedures, and have helped researched for and edited press releases that will eventually go out to hundreds of reporters.

TCU 360 is the new online home for all student-published media at Texas Christian University. I've helped write for the publication over the summer, and have covered the college baseball playoffs, updated stories that were written about in the spring, and also helped break news stories. When former TCU basketball head coach Neil Dougherty passed away in July, I was the first person among all the national media to get a quote from Roy Williams, the head coach for North Carolina, for whom Dougherty was an assistant for in Kansas. Since beginning in June, I've written more than 20 stories for the publication.

I'm the basic assignment editor for the school newspaper. I supervised over 30 reporters on a daily basis, and assigned each reporter a story for them to cover. In addition to assigning stories, I would help assist reporters in multiple ways. For example, I often assisted or gave advice if a reporter had trouble writing an article, they couldn't get a hold of a source, or if they were unsure about a grammar, style or ethical question. Each week, I had to read an average of 20 to 25 stories. For all the stories, I would check first to see if the story had any unanswered questions, and then fix any wording issues. After that, I would check facts, like any proper names or statistics to ensure their accuracy. Finally, I would reword any confusing parts of the story and corrected grammar and style errors.Some of the major stories we covered and broke this semester was a former TCU alumnus who made it to the top 24 on American Idol, plans to add new fraternities and sororities on campus, the death of an alumnus who first collapsed while working out at the university recreation center, and the controversy and fallout of the university not allowing the TCU cheerleaders to perform a common maneuver in a national competition, which ended up hurting their chances of winning.

I've written over 30 articles for the Skiff ranging from hard news to feature, question and answer, and stories with multimedia components. I interviewed several prominent university figures, such as Gary Patterson, head football coach, and Victor Boschini, the chancellor. Two of the biggest stories I broke was the issue of some foreign students having trouble getting visas to study in the country and I wrote several stories about themed campus dorm rooms, and, with the assistance of another reporter, helped uncover one themed section of a dorm that would be specifically geared towards the LGBTQ community. The issue became nationally recognized by major news organizations before the university eventually cancelled the themed housing project entirely.

I edited stories for content and grammar for the Skiff. In addition, I also created headlines for the articles that would appear in the paper the following day. The main part of the job was to double and triple check facts and names to make sure they were correctly spelled or did not contain erroneous information. This entailed looking up names in directories, calling sources to confirm their position at the university, and calling reporters if we had an unanswered question regarding the article.

As an intern for Univision Dallas, I helped assist the news gathering process for the reporters by calling police/officials for conformations on information, helping gather additional information on location for reporters to use in their stories, and going through the numerous tips the station received each day to figure out what was newsworthy.For example, when a mother killed her only child, I called several sources in the Dallas Police Department, and obtained the 911 dispatch call. I also helped translate the call from English to Spanish, and an excerpt of the call aired on the 5 p.m. broadcast that day.One other example was one the opening day of the World Cup. With a reporter and a cameraman, I found people at an apparel store to interview with our reporter, and helped set up shots for the cameraman at a local bar where patrons were watching matches on a big screen television.
