During my 25+ years of marketing, I'm always amazed how marketing continues to evolve and adapt to the latest innovations and technology to reach people. When I started my marketing career, we had the tools of traditional marketing: print ads, TV, radio, direct mail, billboards and other mediums that seem so antiquated and almost quaint by today's standards. Over the years, we saw the advent and adoption of digital, social, databased, and now AI that opens up a whole new world of possibilities and ways to reach people. As exciting as this is, it also comes with a heavy responsibility to ensure we use these new tools correctly, ethically and with the right intentions. It's too easy to twist these tools for nefarious purposes, disinformation, or scamming people for personal gain. As marketers, we need to be our own watch dogs. With today's over abundance of instant communication via myriad channels, storytelling, or content, still remains at the heart of our collective experience and what consumers desire. But how do you balance effective marketing communications in 140-character tweets or abbreviated sound-bite texts to help customers to understand your message? How do you give them something that's relevant and meaningful that they can really understand and sink their teeth into?I believe every client situation is unique and requires a balanced, nuanced approach to effectively reach the right audience and deliver the right message to get them to respond. It may require a multi-channel integrated marketing campaign and using a combination of digital channels and even print avenues due to the way people consume content now via a variety of mediums...from magazines, newsletters, catalogs and direct mail, to emails, tweets, podcasts, blogs, videos and more.I've been fortunate for the opportunity to develop creative, successful marketing communication strategies for a variety of companies and Fortune 100 clients using direct mail, customer loyalty programs, training materials, sales promotions, websites, digital ads, email marketing, social media, new product introductions and custom publishing for client magazines and newsletters.I love what I do and get excited about creating stories and messages that really resonate with audiences. Especially when you see the results, whether it's increased sales, Google analytics, email opens, click-throughs, direct mail responses, lead generation, increased website traffic or positive magazine readership surveys. After all, who doesn't love a good story?
