Worked on a variety of energy saving initiatives with support from EECA. A combination of projects involving heat recovery, automation improvement, HVAC retrofit design, VSD additions and data analysis led me to acquire total energy savings of 6+ GWh over a period of 2 years (exceeding the original target of 2 GWh).

I worked in a mixture of laboratory work, assisting production of graphite samples to be sent away for analysis and research work into graphite purification techniques. The laboratory work consisted of acid leaching graphite samples. The research work included a literature review of current graphite purification techniques, as well as building a mass and energy balance model to estimate the reagent and energy consumption of these methods using references from literature to estimate and compare the expected costs of these processes.
