As a c/o at NFCF, my job required me to be alert and cognizant of my environment at all times. To ensure the safety and security of the surrounding community, staff and inmate population of NFCF, I made it my goal to go above and beyond my duties, and to become an exemplary officer. I was equipped to work every position at the facility, which consisted of operating central control, supervising housing units, perimeter patrol duties, off-facility security escort duties, SMU duties and a host of many others. I was firearms certified and a member of the S.O.R.T. As an Field Training Officer, I was responsible for training the new recruits in all aspects of being a correctional officer and on how to interact with the inmate population. I was emergency first-aid, CPR and rescue breathing certified. Being a correctional officer allowed me to use two of my strongest attributes: my patience and my ability to function under extreme pressure. Every day was a personal challenge to be the very best I could be, and I hoped to instill that drive into others.
