I was brought on as an assoc. social action director with the Office for Peace & Justice of the Archdiocese of Chicago in February 2015 to establish the Center for Catholic Social Thought and Action. I had previously been working on this for six months with the then Director of the Office for Peace & Justice, Jude Huntz.The purpose of the Center is to train, educate, convene Catholic lay leadership, college students, Catholic religious, and the general public locally, regionally, and nationally in Catholic Social Teachings; advocacy; leadership development, community organizing, engagement, and development; as well as social policy.

The Roundtable networks aned communicates across the country to upgrade and share the best parctices of diocesan social action directors among the almost 200 diocese in the U.S.

Obtained national Catholic CCHD criminal justice grant to further the work of the CRJ, which diverted youth from police and municipal courts in four counties to affect reconciliation and restitution between victims and their offenders. A joint collaboration of Catholics and Mennonites.

Wooster, Oh

Two lawyers and I were the founding organizers in three NE Ohio counties around the issue of payday lending. We grew this into a regional issue and then started the state-wide organizing of what came to be the Ohio Responsible Lending Coalition, which, in 2008, won a victory over payday lenders in Ohio, reducing the APR on loans from 400% to 28%.

During tenure as chair, we did extensive research and surveys on immigrants in rural ohio funded by several diocesan grants which eventually resulted in a statement of Ohio's Bishops on rural immigrants that established the Immigrant Worker Project to work with rural immigrants in Ohio.

Canton, Ohiio

Co-founded Immigrant Worker Project, serving over 20 Latino communities throughout central and eastern Ohio with legal services, cultural enrichment, leadership training and empowerment, etc. Works with the dioceses of Ohio on these issues. Served as Chair until 2003.
