I am deeply and uniquely qualified for High School Science Teaching positions, with extensive teaching experience (13 years): AP Environmental Science (currently @ Leadership High School-SF, formerly Albany High School & Mount Diablo High School), Environmental Science, Biology and CTE Hospitality & Tourism... I teach effectively to a broad, diverse, range of young people, particularly low-income students of color... I have dedicated my life to educating and inspiring young people. I offer student-centered laboratory studies with a hands-on, inquiry-based, focus. My lessons reflect my interest in engaging students with science as a direct, active and continual process, using technology to engage with the scientific method and create meaningful, real-world inferences from data sets collected in the lab and in the field. I currently use Google classroom with my students to post notes, videos and assignments and discussions... I work to bring my students field studies that reinforce and support in-class curriculum; examples include outdoor laboratory research, community service, camping, backpacking, and kayaking. Field studies include: native plant restoration at Candlestick Point SRA with Literacy for Environmental Justice; trash surveys and cleanup at Baker Beach through Camping-at-the-Presidio; and biodiversity field studies at Garin Regional Park... I am also focused on offering my students outdoor adventure experiences that spark a love for nature and learning the rigorous AP curriculum. Offerings include: backpacking/wildlife observations in Point Reyes National Seashore; camping/water quality studies in Yosemite National Park; and kayaking/Delta water delivery studies at Big Break Regional Shoreline… The Sierra Club SF Bay ICO (Inspiring Connections Outdoors) and Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) support my work (I lead over 10 of these trips per year).
