Patent drafting, prosecution, portfolio analysis and litigation in technology areas including telecoms, image processing, computer inventions and electronics.

High-energy particle physics PhD working on the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. This has included an 18-month long-term attachment at CERN.This involved an investigation of the recoiling particle momentum imbalance observed in proton collisions. The analysis used two-particle correlations, combined with Monte-Carlo models to extract the results and study the effects of pileup; this Monte-Carlo model formed the basis of my contribution to the ALICE correlations working group. My analysis also uses two-particle correlations to investigate the possibility of quark-gluon plasma production in proton collisions.This has required extensive use of computational techniques, particularly using C++ programming with the ROOT package and libraries to analyse the large quantities of data produced by the LHC. I have also delivered regular presentations regarding my work, both in Birmingham group meetings and to the wider collaboration.In addition to my own analysis work I have taught in the undergraduate physics and computing laboratories, where I taught experimental techniques and C++/MathCad programming.

During my PhD I taught in the undergraduate physics, electronics and computing laboratories, which involved the teaching of experimental techniques and the analysis of results. I also supervised longer-term project work.

On this twelve-week placement within the Particle Physics group, I analysed simulated data from the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, with the aim being to characterise the underlying events. This gave me valuable experience with particle physics data analysis techniques.
