Summer: Judicial Intern for Judge Kovachevich. Fall: Judicial Intern for Judge Kovachevich; Student Liaison for Stetson’s Federal Judicial Intern ProgramSummer: Substantially participated in researching and drafting three proposed orders, totaling ninety pages. Judge Kovachevich signed all three without substantial alteration. The third assignment, given to test my ability, concerned a matter of first impression for the District, which required resolution of several underlying issues, also previously unaddressed in this district. Volunteered beyond the end of the semester to complete that order. Chosen by Judge Kovachevich to return for the fall semester for even more difficult work, and to be the Student Liaison for Stetson’s judicial intern program.Fall: Substantially participated in the research and drafting of a proposed order regarding a 28 U.S.C. § 2254 petition for a writ of habeas corpus, which Judge Kovachevich signed without substantial alteration. The petitioner sought post-conviction relief from his sentence of death, imposed by the State of Florida, for first degree murder. Served as the Student Liaison.

Conducted legal research and presented results to attorneys for various civil litigation matters, typically related to business and real estate, as spring semester clerk. Invited to, and continued through the summer, performing the same duties.

Conducted legal research and then prepared memos for a real fact pattern as well as a hypothetical fact pattern for the Chief of the criminal prosecution division. Observed federal trials, federal court proceedings, and toured the federal correctional complex in Coleman, FL.

Independent commercial owner/operator. Obtained Secret government clearance. Transported high value and military products nationwide. (450 stops: 43 states, including 350 cities, in 2 years).

Akron Oh

Used independent judgment to determine whether various actions were in violation of city or state laws and then determined the appropriate level of enforcement, from warning to custody arrest. Independently patrolled my district, educated the public and offered help as needed.

Wickliffe Oh

Manufacturing: Facilitated plant operations related to high-speed, high-volume production of machine parts used as components of hydraulic hose fittings and assemblies; cost estimated new fittings; and maintained the standard costing system. Projects: Recommended, justified and installed a new, EPA compliant parts washing system worth $450,000. (All production in the plant ran through this system.) Successfully completed installation, without interrupting production, by managing the seven- (7) different subcontracting companies involved and coordinating all internal departments. Supervised the renovation of the plant’s wastewater treatment system. Designed and then supervised the installation of a 3000-gallon tank, which had to be installed underground, through a 3’ x 5’ hole in the floor. Redesigned and replaced chemical pumps and piping network for the treatment system. Managed engineering projects as needed.
