Patrick also has a strong practice representing companies on collection matters for debts owed to them, and he has represented both companies and landowners in condemnation disputes related to the construction of new gas pipelines and power lines throughout Kansas. Patrick has represented clients in the following disputes: • Represented a tire recycling company in a nine-day jury trial in Kansas state court, successfully defending against claims by three individuals asserting an ownership interest in the company and receiving a $3.825 million fraud verdict against those individuals • Represented a wrongfully-convicted inmate pro bono on his habeas appeal of a life sentence for a first-degree murder conviction, successfully receiving a new trial and negotiating a deal where the client was released from prison after serving 17 years for a crime he did not commit • Represented a gas processing facility in a case in Kansas federal court against a contractor involved in the construction of the facility, which included claims of defective and delayed work and improper billing against the contractor • Represented employers from various industries before state and federal agencies and in federal court, defending against claims by current and former employees of age, gender, race, religious, and disability discrimination and retaliation, as well as allegations of sexual harassment and hostile work environment • Served as local counsel in state and federal court lawsuits in Kansas for an international manufacturer of farm and construction equipment involving claims of negligence, breach of warranty, product liability, and property damage Show less
