I am proud to be recognized as a community leader for restorative juvenile justice reform advocacy and the advancement of racial and health equity. Known as an effective restorative practitioner, legislative coordinator and keynote speaker, I am working successfully to educate and transition public policy. Highly passionate and respected professional dedicated to a restorative and equitable juvenile justice system As a public speaker and CJS reform advocate, I am working to address more reforms that can protect youth from a lifetime of punishment by pointing to current legislation, policies in business, and community attitudes that strips returning youth a fresh start in the community as adults. My transitioning phase was impacted by many of the public discriminatory policies and attitudes that harm returning youth after long-term incarceration. I work to identify the perpetual cycle of punishment that exist for returning youth. I educate on how Big Business takes over the punishment model and inflicts its own sentence upon returning youth by utilizing the second layer of policing in relying on apparatuses like Live-Scan and Background Checks to promote discrimination against returning community members.I work in the community to help system impacted people by mentoring them and empowering them with knowledge of the pitfalls that they should expect during their transition. I do this by holding community building circles that connect system impacted community members with community leaders that want to learn more about how to better receive and assist these transitioning members back into the community.As volunteer for the JJDPC, I advocate for change in the JCJS, including the Foster System to change its systemic models to a more restorative model in SMC. I work with community leaders to develop models that do not include aggressive policing and prosecutions of youth. I use my personal lived experience to help address the JCJS policies and attitudes that inflict punishment of youth, rather than treatment.
