I love creating businesses that use new technology in innovative ways to solve people's problems.I'm fascinated by emerging technologies but always from the perspective of "so what?" What can we do with that technology to make things better? How can we create a virtuous cycle that not only solves someone's problem but also creates a sustainable business?I built my career around successfully answering this question of "so what" and creating valuable hardware, software, and services that generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and profit.As a product manager I work with dozens of cross-functional multi-national teams to bring ideas from a customer's seemingly unsolvable problem to a product shipping across the globe. I have extensive experience managing the life cycle from idea to end-of life. There are few feelings greater than watching your customer deftly addressing their issues using a product you helped conjure into existence. There is always a tinge of sadness after successfully selling the last unit of inventory and an outstanding product becomes part of the company's history.Repeatedly moving through that product life-cycle is the basis of my most recent experience - building and leading a world-class product management organization. This starts by working with the executive team to create the vision and strategy for the business. It continues with establishing, growing, and coaching a team with the right skills, supported by repeatable processes, that can bring hundreds of products and services to market and is resilient in the face of industry change, personnel turnover, and the often crazy day-to-day fire fighting that can be so disruptive.While I search for my next opportunity I’m likely riding my bike up some crazy mountain. Or maybe playing a game like "Viticulture" where I can try out my skills running a vineyard, or "Power Grid" where I can create a regional utility company, or "Data Driven Football" where I can coach my team to Super Bowl success!
