Cube Designer was created as a web application but packaged as thick client. The user interface is written in JavaScript (using Dojo as the UI framework) with Java for the business logic and back end (built on the Eclipse Modeling Framework). The application is packaged using an embedded version of Firefox (Xulrunner) in an SWT frame. IBM Cognos Dynamic Cubes are the in-memory, highly scalable, ROLAP reporting solution for relational databases such as IBM DB/2, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.I am a co-author of the IBM Redbook "IBM Cognos Dynamic Cubes, 2nd Edition".I mentored junior members of the team in proper software engineering practices with a focus on insuring quality and long-term maintainability.I am the internal representative for Ellucian within the development organization, ensuring that their needs are understood and reflected in product planning and otherwise providing a 'direct link' to the development organization. Ellucian serves the needs of higher education institutions and integrates IBM Cognos software within their own.I developed the model design accelerator feature for IBM Cognos Framework Manager with a focus on easing and accelerating the creation of business reporting models. I implemented the feature in Java but integrated it into the legacy C++ code using Java Native Interface (JNI).I introduced and evangelized agile development methodologies within the modelling team and worked with my managers to ensure successful adoption of the agile techniques.I developed next-generation web-based modelling service using REST APIs using IBM Websphere Liberty Profile as the J2EE application container. I was responsible for integrating PowerPlay and PowerPlay Enterprise Server with the Cognos 8 Business Intelligence platform in the database and network layer on Windows and Unix. I reworked and rewrote the code that handled client-server communication between PowerPlay and Cognos 8. The code was written in C++ and used the Unix sockets interface.This project was the first in Cognos to adopt agile development principles and techniques.
