Zhuhai International Circuit-based American race driver and instructor Pete Olson’s story is an unusual one. Similar to drivers like former Irish F1 pilot Eddie Jordan, Olson funded most of his own racing through various financial jobs and raced part-time until 2007, when he gave up a lucrative career in finance to pay to work as a race mechanic, in order to fund his first full formula racing season. Olson started part-time in supersport road racing [600cc Ninja] and karting in college, competing in the United States and later the Taiwan Rotax Championship. His move to full-time racing came in 2007-8 when he attended the Bridgestone Racing Academy at Mosport Raceway in Canada, to work as a racing mechanic in order to afford to race formula cars full-time. In 2007 he dominated the 2007 F2000 series in Ontario, Canada, leading to a sponsored Bridgestone drive in 2008. In 2009 he made the move to Asia in order to ride the wave of the rapidly-growing Asia motorsports scene. From 2009-2015 he raced and coached in FRD Motorsports, Champ Motorsports, and PS Racing, finishing 10th & 3rd overall in Asia Formula Renault in 2012 & 2013. As of December, 2015 Olson races and coaches in current AFR Champion team BAR/Black Arts Racing team based at Zhuhai International Circuit.
