Graduating from the University of Nottingham achieving a masters in mechanical engineering with first class hons provided me with a broad range of skills which allowed me to transition seamlessly into the engineering industry. Not only with an excellent grounding in engineering principals, I developed skills and knowledge including but not limited to: Ansys FEA & CFD, complex 3D modelling - Solidworks - including surface modelling, materials properties and manufacturing methods, composite materials and business management. These attributes have allowed me to work effectively and produce results quickly in all my graduate placements at Renishaw, in which each department requires different skills for different engineering fields.I have really enjoyed learning as much as I can across as many disciplines as possible across my placements, with particular growth in my technical drawing with GD&T ability using Siemens NX and designing for appropriate tolerances while considering the capability and economics of part production. I have also really enjoyed expanding my skills using ANSYS which has allowed me to produce simulation driven part designs and developing my knowledge of design for both injection moulded and metal additively manufactured parts. My placements have been in the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) department, Encoders department and metal Additive Manufacturing department.The opportunity to work at the UK Atomic Energy Authority was amazing to see and learn about the recently retired JET project and undertake a mechanical design task for a test rig handling tritium which must undergo extremely high temperature and pressure ranges which presented exciting design challenges.
