I am also recognized for nimble learning, an ability to navigate networks, balance stakeholders and being persuasive. After I finished law school at Queen's University I started my professional life as a corporate lawyer.  I practised corporate securities law, with an expertise in mergers & acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, was a Partner with McCarthy Tétrault in Toronto and Calgary and co-founded the firm’s national private equity and venture capital group. I subsequently ventured into the business world, acting as General Counsel for G3 Genuine Guide Gear, a manufacturer of industry leading backcountry ski and snowboard equipment, and Chief Executive Officer of Mertex Canada, a leading supplier of OCTG and line pipe to the energy and potash sectors, and the physical trading of metals and rare earth minerals.I have returned to my roots practising corporate law with a special interest in M&A, private equity and venture capital, and acting as a fractional general counsel. I have been fortunate to be recognized by a variety of national and international professional legal guides and awards, including The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, The M&A Advisor’s Annual International M&A Awards, the Annual Americas M&A Atlas Awards, and Latin Lawyer’s Annual Deal of the Year Award in areas such as M&A, private equity and venture capital, and corporate mid-market. I have helped clients raise over $1.5 billion in private capital and complete over $50 billion in M&A transactions in my career, including acting for Molson Inc. in its business combination with Adolph Coors Company, which was the Lexpert Cross-Border Deal of the Year. I also have a strong interest in politics and government. Through my studies prior to law school and continuous learning, I have a deep understanding of politics and in particular why and how politics is important for understanding the world we live in. This is very important for understanding the energy industry.When I'm not working I love to ski and hike in my amazing backyard playground of the Rocky Mountains, ride my bikes and spend time with my son.I’d be delighted to speak to you about how I can help you with your legal and business needs.
