As a Forest Operations team member I was responsible for planning, managing and supervising a range of harvesting, ground preparation, establishment and engineering operations across the Mid-South (West) patch of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate.Responsible for co-ordinating the 2022/2023 restock programme for Mid-South (West) and liaising with Maelor Forest Nurseries.Involved in Cryptomeria trials as a 'secondary species'.Managed a range of silvicultural operations from CCF/LISS to mulching and mounding.Within the first week on the job I was given a harvesting site to supervise that produced close to 8,000 tonnes of FSC certified timber. This experience allowed me to supervise and manage several other harvesting sites throughout the placement.During my time with NRW I contributed to ongoing research in the forestry sector by planning and delivering a biodegradable tree shelter trial.

My role with WRT was to assist in the conservation effort of the organisation through planning and undertaking a series of public engagement exercises, particularly involving the management and control of invasive non native species (INNS).

Working seasonally at Shincliffe Plant Nursery allowed me to explore the various avenues for vegetation propagation. This role allowed me to develop a greater understanding of the processes involved in growing an economically viable supply of crops.

Rainton Meadows

Whilst studying for my Level 3 Land and Wildlife Management, I worked part time with DWT to manage their reserves across the northern half of County Durham.With these reserves being primarily comprised of ASNW and PAWS woodland, I delivered a range of conservation forestry management techniques, particularly in the restoration of PAWS and removal of Chalara infected ash.
