Facilities Engineer Intern
During this internship with Secant Group, I was tasked with revising the company's asset list to better reflect the actual information on the assets. During this process, I identified and fixed errors to make the list conform with asset information. In addition, I created new documentation to replace missing assets. And finally, I assisted in the annual Fixed Asset Audit and updating the asset list with any locations that may have changed since last year's audit.
Facilities Engineer Intern
During this internship, I was tasked with creating technical drawings of a manufacturing building from scratch using AutoCAD 2018. These drawings depicted the HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Lighting, and Fire Suppression systems in the building. In addition, I created a Single Line Drawing for the electrical systems.Over the course of the summer, the chiller broke, requiring a temporary one be brought in. I was tasked with figuring the best way the get the temporary chiller tubing from the chiller to the tie in point. One solution involved building wooden supports, which I engineered with a factor of safety. At another point in the summer, I helped to determine the humidity of air after it passed through a cooling coil in the building DOAS through the use of a Psychrometric Chart. I also identified mistakes on the corporate headquarters’ electrical drawings and corrected in AutoCAD, formulated and implemented a solution to control airflow through return grill, and helped to provide contractor oversight during construction operations.
Aerospace Engineer Intern
My major project during the internship was to establish a test method to biaxially test antenna mesh, based off a 1960s NASA document. In this project, I made a Gantt chart, coordinated with many people in different departments, and researched on other biaxial tests. I wrote a work instruction for the test, helped to create a TestWorks7 program to run test, and conducted the testing on a MTS Universal Testing Machine. In addition, I learned about Antenna Mesh and the process to produce it. Using that knowledge, I wrote work instructions on different parts of the process to make Antenna Mesh, allowing someone who is untrained to do the production. I also helped to knit Antenna Mesh for a customer.During the internship, I also used LinkedIn to help find new customers for the Secant Group. This was a process developed by my supervisor, Chris Glasby, to find new customers for Secant Group. It has worked well, and I was able to make contact with a company who is interested in working with the Secant Group. Another responsibility was to write reports on production runs for customers.
Engineering Intern
During my internship at SanaVita Medical, LLC., I learned a lot and gained amazing real-world work experience. I learned how to use 2 programs that were new to me: Solidworks and MiniTab. Solidworks gave me a greater understanding of the workings of CAD design. MiniTab gave me a crash course into the importance of statics in an engineering job.In addition, I obtained exposure to and applied proper documentation practices (GMP), and using this new knowledge, wrote specifications, cover sheets for customer specs, equipment work instruction, and two Capital Expenditures. Through writing these documents and learning GMP, I was able to operate in compliance within ISO 13485 and FDA regulations. I also learned and applied QMS controls. Along with my desk duties, I performed duties in a ISO Level 7 Cleanroom, where I completed a process validation, conducted destructive testing, and inspected components using a Video Inspection System CMM. Because SanaVita did not have some more expensive equipment, I was tasked with finding them for SanaVita. With that assignment, I looked into many options across many companies and was able to obtain quotes from vendors on equipment and supplies. And as mentioned above, I wrote Capital Expenditures for the equipment. My time at SanaVita Medical was informative and enjoyable.
