With extensive legal and senior management experience in the government sector including the Crime and Corruption Commission, the Queensland Law Society (QLS) and several national and State based not for profit organisations, as well as private practice I am uniquely placed, as a Special Counsel, to offer a unique service that seeks to respond quickly and informatively to clients offering a strategic plan forward to resolve a matter whilst safeguarding their rights and reputation.I have a special interest in the role that the profession plays with regard to the most vulnerable members of our community. The position of Public Interest Monitor was established in Queensland under the Crime and Misconduct Act 2001 (Qld), and the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld). Under the Crime and Misconduct Act, the PIM monitors applications for, and the use of, surveillance warrants and covert search warrants. The PIM also monitors applications for the interception of telecommunications services by the QPS and CCC.Under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act, the PIM monitors applications for, and the use of, surveillance device warrants, retrieval warrants and covert search warrants.The PIM’s primary role is to represent the public interest where law enforcement agencies seek approval to use search powers and surveillance devices that have the capacity to infringe the rights and civil liberties of citizens. The role is based on the public interest in ensuring that law enforcement agencies meet all legislative requirements, and that their proposed actions do not extend beyond the parameters laid down by the Queensland Parliament.

The Brisbane based Prisoners Legal Service (PLS) is Australia’s oldest independent legal service for prisoners and their families.I lead a small team dedicated to providing high quality legal advice and assistance and to be involved in innovative legal service delivery programs, working in partnership with other community organisations, the private legal profession and government to advance the conditions and human rights of people who are incarcerated in Queensland.The Director/Principal Solicitor is responsible for the overall management and day to day operation of the PLS ensuring that the mission and operational plan are implemented. I am also responsible for the supervision of legal practice within the organisation.

General Manager /In house Counsel MLRSA is a national company with its head office in Brisbane. MLRSA has been providing assessment, examination and reporting services for federal and state government agencies and workers’ compensation authorities for almost eight years. I was engaged as General Manager of MLRSA to drive organisational change within the business with a view to improve productivity, client engagement and revenue. I set a goal of three years to achieve these goals. I was able to achieve the: - • Development of an outcome measurable three year Strategic Plan;• Development and implementation of a new client focused web site.• Development and implementation of the new generation on line client services with a cloud based portal to provide better client service;• Significant growth or new referrer base and revenue from existing client base; and• Establishment of MLRSA Corporate Social Responsibility Charter – Which included establishment of a DGR Foundation.

As manager-legal investigations my primary role was to develop and implement a best practice complaint handling process and investigative techniques to be employed by Society staff in the investigation of professional misconduct. As the Director of Operations my role was to provide leadership in engaging with QLS members by providing services and support in response to indentified needs.

Successfully project managed two significant capital projects for the QLS namely, the refurbishment of QLS House and the implementation of a new IT platform that included a MRM system finance system and a web content management system. I held the position of Acting CEO of the QLS for several months following the resignation of former CEO

I lead a multidisciplinary investigations team which was principally involved in the covert and sensitive investigation of serious police corruption.I have extensive experience working within an anti-corruption/integrity commission through my nearly nine years as an Executive Legal Officer at the Crime ad Misconduct Commission. As an Executive Legal Officer (including Executive legal officer – Covert and sensitive investigations Unit and Acting Director – Misconduct investigations) I was primarily involved in the leadership of a multi-disciplinary team that consisted of senior police officers, civilian investigators, finance and intelligence officers, other legal officers and administrative and record keeping staff. My experience in leading investigations concerned police corruption and public sector/ local government misconduct. I was required to offer senior management and leadership in a number of highly sensitive and complex investigations, which required the ability to managed significant caseloads within a team environment.
