I am the Bureau of Meteorology's Head of Research. I have held this role since late 2009. As a part of this responsibility, I was Deputy Director of CAWCR from 2009 to 1016. As such, I have been responsible for the development, management and delivery of the Bureau's R&D program. Strategic planning and management are pivotal as has been the management of more than 120 staff. Our science covers observations, environmental issues, climate science and weather applications as well as developing staff and corporate capability. In this role I have contributed to the Bureau’s science directions and have provided guidance and advice in policy areas, and the observation program. I represent the Bureau on several national and international bodies. I was a member of the Technical Advisory Group for the National Marine Facility Future Research Vessel project, the Steering committee for the National Environmental Science Program Earth System Science and Climate Change Hub, the Advisory Board for the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science. I a member of the World Metrological Organisation (WMO) Commission for Atmospheric Sciences Management Committee that oversees international research coordination and prioritization for WMO.
