CurrentGeneral Manager, Science to Services/ Assistant Director Research and Development and Head of Research 2009-Bureau of Meteorology• Leads 130 research staff delivering advanced scientific knowledge and world-class systems for prediction services to support customers and decision makers in government, industry and the community – with national and international impact. • Oversaw step changes in the development of prediction systems and • Delivered state of the art modelling and forecast systems including numerous external stakeholders such as the aviation industry, Navy, the Dept. Of Environment and Energy, DFAT and the resource sector.Key achievements• Led the delivery of world class environmental modelling capability and forecast systems into Bureau operations.• Led the program to deliver a system for fire smoke modelling for the Victorian Government including for controlled burn planning with CSIRO• Delivered climate change research directly affecting policy decisions in State and Commonwealth Government (e.g. water policies arising from the Victorian Climate Initiative)• Improved services to aviation, the resource sector and agriculture• Drove the development of the Bureau's research strategic plan including capability development and a step change in forecast capability. • Provided trusted advice to Government• The delivery of world class environmental modelling capability underpinning Bureau services to the public, Navy, aviation and agricultural industries.• Delivery of key forecast systems into Bureau operations improving our accuracy and spatial detail for the benefit of the public, emergency services and industry.• Led the concept and development of world leading meteorological capability into the National Marine Facility.
