Director Peer Services
CurrentFoundation for Recovery is the sole provider of and promoter of Peer Recovery Support Services in Nevada. Peers are persons who have a specific experiential background and they use it to aid others. This means persons who have experienced mental health or addiction issues and are currently in long-term recovery have received training and assist others currently going through their own disease or addiction. They are not counselors, sponsors, clinicians or spiritual advisers. Peer Recovery Support Specialists deal with the nitty-gritty needs of people that are fighting their way back to stability.I am responsible for: 1. The oversight of THE ROOMS 2625 S. Rainbow, this facility houses meeting space for 12-step and other types of mutual or self-help groups - over 2000 annually. It also houses GED classes, parenting groups, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill meetings and trainings, Peer Support training and a bookstore. 2. The further development of Peer Recovery Support Specialists as a recognized profession. Development and implementation of state standards that include training and certification, drafting statutory and code language and writing proposals for funding that will aid this effort. 3. The education and marketing of Peer Recovery Support to the community at large.
